Before heading to a Tribeca Film Festival reception later in the evening, Katie Holmes took the thong sandal from gala dressing back to denim on Monday, wearing Malone Souliers’ Koko Embossed Thong Sandals while out in New York City.
The actress, who wore Herbert Levine’s dressier “Kiss and Tell” thong sandals to the American Ballet Theatre Spring Gala in May, chose a lower brown style for the city outing. Holmes wore Malone Souliers’ Koko, a 45mm thong mule made in embossed calfskin leather with a basket-like texture.

The sandal has a slim toe post that meets two straps widening over the top of the foot, a leather sole and a low kitten heel. Malone Souliers currently lists the Made in Italy style at $595; the brand also offers the Koko in a brighter orange-and-pink embossed colorway.

Holmes wore the sandals with a blue pinstriped button-down, loosely French-tucked into dark wide-leg denim trousers. Her jeans featured paneled detailing down the sides, cut from a triangular point near the hips into a wider shape down the lower leg. She added dark sunglasses and carried a brown Cuyana System Tote, staying in the same easy New York quiet luxury uniform she has returned to often: crisp button-downs, denim and a shoe choice with more detail than a quick glance might catch.

Other celebrities have been wearing similar low-heeled versions this spring. Kylie Jenner wore Manolo Blahnik’s Paterno leather thong sandals to a Knicks playoff game with Timothée Chalamet in April, pairing a 50mm kitten heel version with white Isabel Marant jeans. Last summer, the kitten heel thong sandal was ubiquitous, with stars like Hailey Bieber and Kaia Gerber repeatedly punctuating elevated casual looks with a heeled flip-flop.
