Jaden Smith joined the cast and creative team behind Spike Lee’s latest film “Highest 2 Lowest” at the Los Angeles screening on Wednesday, where the young artist continued the statement headpiece and hat trend.
Smith, wearing a heather gray suit with a white dress shirt and black tie, wore a contemporary take on the Gatsby-style hat. The artist, who posed for photos alongside Oscar-winning filmmaker and screenwriter Spike Lee, wore a headpiece from Dutch brand Yume Yume.

The Gatsby hat, characterized by its soft brim and voluminous frame, was crafted with a leather-like material and included a flap on either side falling past Smith’s shoulders. The overall look gave the retro, 1920s chapeau a contemporary edge with high-fashion sensibility.
Smith previously embraced the statement headpiece and hat trend at the 2025 Met Gala. The Louis Vuitton brand ambassador styled a custom-suited look courtesy of Ozwald Boateng, with which he accessorized a wiry headpiece. The piece practically caged Smith’s head and created an abstract frame for his face.

Since the 2025 Met Gala, other artists have put their own spin on the headpiece trend. At the Variety 2025 Power of Young Hollywood party in Beverly Hills on Aug. 7, Tyla paired her coordinated Palomo resort 2026 collection look with a statement headpiece.
The Grammy Award-winning “Water” singer‘s headpiece featured feather-like elements that framed the singer’s face and fastened to the singer’s blunt bob, accentuating the trending hairstyle further.

Inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s “High and Low,” Lee’s “Highest 2 Lowest” follows a music mogul, played by Denzel Washington, targeted in a ransom plot, subsequently finding himself in a life-or-death moral dilemma. The film hits theaters Friday and streams on Apple TV+ beginning Sept. 5.
