Taylor Swift’s original song for the upcoming Toy Story 5, “I Knew It, I Knew You” now has a music video companion available to view on Spotify and Apple Music.
The song aligns closely with the story of Jessie (voiced by Joan Cusack), who first entered the playground in Toy Story 2. Swift wrote it “as soon as [she] got home from” a very early screening of the film, and it marks a return to her country music roots heard in her first several albums from her debut to Fearless to Speak Now and Red.
The scene of Jessie first meeting Woody with Bullseye in the background kicks off the music video. Then she joins the rest of the toys, including Buzz Lightyear. She also flashes back to her previous owner leaving her in a donations box, red car driving away. The music video ends with a young, red-headed girl who looks a lot like Jessie pictured playing with the cowgirl doll in a tire swing and falling into a pile of leaves. Some of this footage looks to be from the fifth film.
Swift wrote the song with frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff. It will most definitely enter her in the race for Oscar consideration for Best Original song. In the past, she has contributed songs like “Carolina” for Where the Crawdads Sing (2022), “Beautiful Ghosts” for the movie musical Cats (2019) in which she appeared as Bombalurina and “Safe and Sound” (feat. The Civil Wars) and “Eyes Open” for The Hunger Games. She also wrote “Today Was A Fairytale” for Valentine’s Day (2008) in which she appeared alongside ex-boyfriend Taylor Lautner.
Whether Swift has a voice role in the film is yet to be revealed, but the connection could be drawn seeing as Greta Lee, who voices Lilypad in the fifth movie, featured in the music video for Swift’s “Opalite” following the two women appearing on The Graham Norton Show together with Domhnall Gleeson and Cillian Murphy, who also feature in that same music video.

The musician announced her contribution to the latest film in the franchise June 1, and the song is now streaming on any music platform.
