What do you like most about your job?
Honestly? I love connecting students to possibilities. Every student has a dream, and being part of that journey is amazing. It’s not just about visas or paperwork – it’s about conversations, culture, and those “aha” moments. Seeing their excitement makes me want to jump up and do a little happy dance (don’t worry, I only do it in private… mostly).
Best work trip / Worst work trip?
Best: Canada in summer. Perfect weather, super excited students, and yes, maple syrup somehow made everything taste better.
Worst: China in winter. I wore cute shoes instead of snow boots – rookie mistake. Let’s just say sliding across icy streets wasn’t part of the agenda. Lesson learned: always pack for reality, not Instagram.
If you could learn a language instantly, which would you pick and why?
Chinese! I have many friends in the NRI community, and I love how expressive and lively the language is. Imagine understanding all the jokes, stories, and quick quips without asking “What does that mean?” That would be a game changer – and also very handy for decoding the gossip!
What makes you get up in the morning?
Purpose – knowing that someone somewhere is making a life-changing decision and I might play a part in it. And yes, coffee. Strong, heroic coffee that says, ‘you got this, Carina’.
Champion/cheerleader which we should all follow and why?
Jack Ma. This guy got rejected so many times, it’s insane. But he kept going. His story reminds me – and anyone chasing a dream – that setbacks are just plot twists in your success story. Plus, I like thinking he’s a little bit of a rebel with a plan, and who doesn’t want that energy?
Best international ed conference and why?
The PIE Live events. Imagine the Olympics of education – people from everywhere, sharing ideas, building partnerships, and generally making you feel like anything is possible. I come back buzzing with energy and new friends
Worst conference food/beverage experience
Ah, the infamous “Asian noodles” that were actually spaghetti drowned in soy sauce. I stared at it like, is this a culinary joke? Coffee helped a little, but let’s just say I survived mostly on determination.

The EdUp Experience podcast. Insightful, easy to follow, and perfect for when you’re running between meetings, airports, or just life in general. It keeps you sharp and occasionally gives you that, “ah yes, I can do this!” feeling.

Our Global Education Fairs! They’re not just events — they’re little magic moments. Students meet universities face-to-face, ask bold questions, and walk away inspired. For me, it’s like playing matchmaker between dreams and opportunities — and when it works, wow, it feels amazing.
