Land reforms needed to make India a mfg hub: Industry body

NEW DELHI: India must adopt a comprehensive and forward-looking competitiveness agenda, and undertake factor market reforms such as land reforms, to help realise the goal of emerging as a global manufacturing and investment hub.“India has made remarkable progress in several areas of reform, but land remains a domain where foundational changes are overdue in terms of access, cost, and regulatory ease for businesses,” the CII has said. The industry lobby group said a robust land reform strategy will boost manufacturing, improve investor confidence, unlock rural development , and drive inclusive growth. It suggested the setting up of a GST Council-like entity to enable consensus-based land reforms, as land governance in the country lies largely within state jurisdiction, and the cross-cutting nature of land policy demands close cooperation between the Centre and states.
