You may already know the brand but why not learn more about its history?

    About the brand:

YSL is a luxury fashion brand founded in 1961 by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, two French Haute Couture designers. They have created a brand known for its modern and sleek design that challenges the notion of fashion with its high-end clothing, handbags, shoes, and accessories. Saint Laurent has been part of the Kering group since 1999, with other brands like Balenciaga, Gucci, Bottega Veneta and more. Since then, Kering hired Tom Ford to design the ready-to-wear collection while Yves Saint Laurent would design the haute couture. The brand has worked in collaboration with a range of celebrities, artists which developed its global presence with stores around the world. In 2002, Yves Saint Laurent retired and died 6 years later in Paris.

        3 questions about YSL

What’s the difference between YSL, Yves Saint Laurent and Saint Laurent?

Yves Saint Laurent’s brand is divided in two branches, Saint Laurent Paris specializes in Haute Couture, ready-to-wear, leather accessories, footwear and YSL Beauty specializes in cosmetics. Saint Laurent Paris is owned by Kering Group and YSL Beauty is owned by L’Oréal Group. In 2012, Saint Laurent’s creative director decided to remove “Yves” from the Haute Couture line’s old name to make it Saint Laurent Paris. A new logo has been created for this line with Saint Laurent Paris written on it, but the iconic YSL logo can still be seen on many luxury items, keeping with it the brand’s history and heritage.

    Why is Saint Laurent expensive?

Saint Laurent is a luxury brand whose pricing is due to the exclusivity and high demand for its products which are, in addition, made with high quality materials. The most used are leather, cotton and wood. Often handcrafted, the brand is renowned for producing iconic and timeless design. They increase prices often to maintain scarcity and exclusivity.

Does Saint Laurent hold its value?

Yes, the famous brand holds its value and even more with its iconic seasonal bags such as the Loulou and Sac de Jour which have a good resale value. However, the value of the bag depends on its condition, the current market demand, and the rarity of its design. If you want to resell your Saint Laurent bag, submit a quote request through our online system and receive a response from our experts within 48 business hours.

    • Yves Saint Laurent has a strong brand identity. Thanks to its iconic logo, composed of the initials brand’s name, YSL, the brand is instantly recognisable.

    • The brand is committed to sustainability. Eco-friendly packaging has been used and a program to reduce carbon emissions has been started. The brand is also using eco-friendly materials like organic cotton. Saint Laurent decided to take some initiatives and reduce its environmental impact.

    • With his innovative and open mind, in 1966, Saint Laurent broke fashion codes and all traditional gender norms by introducing the first ever trouser suit for women which became an iconic piece of fashion history.
