Sydney Sweeney shares no. 1 advice she’d give aspiring young actors

Sydney Sweeney is offering clear guidance to young performers hoping to build a career in Hollywood.

“Do it as long as you love it,” the 28-year-old actress told People at the New York City premiere of The Housemaid.

She emphasised that passion is the only reliable fuel in an industry defined by rejection. “You have to love it a lot, because it’s really hard, and you’re going to be told ‘no’ more than you’re told ‘yes.’ If you love it to your core, none of that matters because you’re getting to do what you love.”

Sweeney began working in 2009 and built her résumé through guest roles on major shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Pretty Little Liars.

Her career breakout happened in the late 2010s with roles in The Handmaid’s Tale, Sharp Objects, and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. She later became a global name through Euphoria and has since appeared in The White Lotus, Immaculate, Anyone but You, Madame Web, and Christy, while trying luck with producing.

Her latest film, The Housemaid, based on Freida McFadden’s bestselling psychological thriller, casts Sweeney as a desperate young woman who takes a job with a wealthy couple played by Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar.

Reflecting on her early years, Sweeney said she always loved auditioning. “You get to try out different characters. If you want to do this as a kid, make sure you truly love it.”
