Netflix has cast Toby Wallace in a lead role for its upcoming live-action adaptation of the blockbuster video game franchise ‘Assassin’s Creed,’ Variety and Deadline reported.

The series, developed in collaboration with Ubisoft Film & Television, was officially greenlit in July 2025 and is expected to begin filming in Italy next year. Wallace, 24, known for his performances in HBO’s ‘Euphoria,’ FX’s limited series ‘Pistol,’ and films like ‘The Bikeriders’ and ‘Babyteeth,’ will play a co-lead in the high-octane series.

Character details remain under wraps, though the official logline describes a secret war between two shadowy factions—one seeking control over humanity’s future, the other fighting to preserve free will. The narrative spans pivotal historical events, offering a mix of action, political intrigue, and human drama.

Emmy-nominated creators Roberto Patino and David Wiener serve as showrunners and executive producers, joined by Ubisoft’s Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, Genevieve Jones, and Netflix’s Matt O’Toole. The show represents the first of several adaptations planned under Netflix’s partnership with Ubisoft.

The original ‘Assassin’s Creed’ game debuted in 2007, introducing players to the Assassins and Templars, rival factions using advanced technology to relive genetic memories and secure powerful artifacts known as Pieces of Eden. Since then, the franchise has sold over 230 million copies, spawning 14 main titles, spin-offs, and a 2016 feature film starring Michael Fassbender.

Patino and Wiener said in a joint statement: “Beneath the spectacle, parkour and thrills lies a story about identity, purpose and human connection across time and cultures. We are committed to creating something undeniable for fans worldwide.”

Netflix is also developing an animated ‘Assassin’s Creed’ series alongside a new video game for the streaming platform, signalling the franchise’s expanding global presence.
