The Sydney Sixers have revealed a distinctive twist on Babar Azam’s iconic jersey number, adding an extra layer of excitement ahead of the 15th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL).
The franchise announced the move on Tuesday through its social media platforms, showcasing the star Pakistan batter at the historic Sydney Cricket Ground.
While Babar is widely associated with the number 56, the Sixers introduced a creative variation — the 30-year-old will sport 056 this season.
Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, meanwhile, will continue wearing the classic 56. The franchise framed the decision as a lighthearted and stylish way to distinguish the two high-profile players who share the same preferred number.
The announcement coincided with Babar’s arrival in Sydney for what is expected to be one of the most closely watched international stints of the upcoming BBL.
The Sixers welcomed him with a short video clip showing the prolific right-hander walking into the dressing room, accompanied by the caption: “He’s arrived.”
The teaser quickly went viral among fans eager to see the Pakistan captain in action on Australian soil.
BBL 15 will run from December 14, 2025, to January 25, 2026, featuring 44 matches primarily during prime-time evening slots. With a revamped schedule and increased international participation, the league anticipates strong global viewership this season.
Pakistan will have a significant presence across multiple franchises. In addition to Babar and fellow superstar Shaheen Shah Afridi, the country’s representation includes: Mohammad Rizwan and Hassan Khan (Melbourne Renegades), Haris Rauf (Melbourne Stars), Shadab Khan (Sydney Thunder), and Hasan Ali (Adelaide Strikers).
This influx of Pakistani talent is expected to inject extra flair into the league, especially given the players’ current form and strong fan following.
The BBL has confirmed that the 2025-26 finals will retain the traditional four-match structure. The Qualifier will take place on January 20, culminating in the Grand Final on January 25, 2026.
With Babar’s arrival and his eye-catching jersey reveal, excitement is building rapidly among Sixers supporters — and the broader cricket world — as one of the game’s premier batters gears up for his first full BBL campaign.
