Charming, pink & peaceful but is the Arizona Inn in Tucson worth staying at?

Tucked away in the heart of Tucson, the Arizona Inn is a pink-walled, historic retreat that feels like stepping back in time in the best possible way. From cactuses and vintage charm to peaceful courtyards and long list of celebrity guests, this Tucson hotel offers a unique alternative to modern resorts. In this review, I’m sharing my full experience staying at the Arizona Inn. What I loved, what to know before booking, and whether it’s worth the stay if you’re visiting Tucson Arizona.

The Arizona Inn is a casita style inn and you could drive past it without even knowing from the unassuming facade but stepping inside the peaceful 14 acres of grounds and rooms is like stepping back in history. It opened on Dec 18th 1930 and was created by Isabella Greenway “as a candle against the gathering darkness of the Great Depression”.

The Arizona Inn has a long history with a lot of famous guests including Katharine Hepburn, Clark Gable, Bette Davis, Jean Simmons, Cary Grant, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and John Wayne.

Arizona Inn Patio King room review

There are 89 casita-style rooms and suites and we stayed in a Patio King room. It’s spacious, with a king bed, 2 large chairs, a desk, fridge, and a private furnished patio. I appreciated that the room felt antique but the bathroom was light, more modern, and everything was spotless.

The bed and pillows were comfortable, the AC wasn’t overly loud and the cozy bathrobes were a nice touch. Another perk is the walk-in closets. They’re large as people used to stay here for months at a time.

    Arizona Inn amenities and restaurants

For a hotel with 89 rooms, this hotel has more facilities than a lot of other hotels of the same size. Everything is very much in keeping with the casita style inn and it’s history from the beautiful flowers and trees Isabella planted back in the 1930’s to the antique furniture throughout the hotel and especially in the library. PS the library is a really quiet and pretty spot to read or get work done as the wifi is much stronger in here than in most other places.

    Arizona Inn amenities include:

    • Table tennis.
    • 2 restaurants and a pool restaurant and bar.
    • Gift shop.
    • Library.
    • Croquet lawn.
    • Free parking in the lot right across the street.
    • Tennis courts.
    • Badminton court.
    • Swimming pool.
    • Fitness center with cardio equipment, free weights.
    • Event spaces (African and Safari Room).

I love that the Arizona Inn is a historic hotel but that the facilities are modern and clean. It makes it a comfortable, spa like stay. It’s also so beautiful and quiet. I only saw about 10 other guests the whole 2 days we stayed there.

What to know before you book and go

When choosing a room type consider the time of year you’re visiting. The private furnished patio is great for Spring or Fall but would you actually use it in the height of Summer or Winter. In Winter, request a Deluxe Patio King room with a fireplace for cozy vibes and sipping wine.

Planning a wedding at the Arizona Inn? Opt for the Deluxe Patio Suite or House 6. This two-bedroom, two-bath residence also has two private gardens, a fireplace and a full kitchen.

It’s pretty easy to get lost here as there’s no straight line paths to anywhere, so definitely get a map from reception. Make sure to pack flat shoes, workout gear and swimwear to be able to make the most of the amenities and for walking around the property.

Is it worth staying at the Arizona Inn Tucson AZ

I really loved staying here and how quiet it was and would definitely recommend staying here if you’re looking for a Tucson Hotel and don’t mind that it’s not ultra modern but full of character and charm instead. If you don’t like historic buildings and things that aren’t bright white and modern, this isn’t the Tucson hotel for you.

My only regret is that we didn’t have more time here as we were working but we can’t wait to come back and hopefully get some pool and croquet time.

    Book the Arizona Inn
