June Lockhart, legendary actress who warmed hearts in Lassie and Lost In Space, has passed away at the age of 100.
The beloved Hollywood star died peacefully at her home in Santa Monica, California, surrounded by her daughter June Elizabeth and granddaughter Christianna.
Her daughter shared a touching tribute, saying, “Mommy always considered acting her craft, but her true passions were journalism, politics, science, and NASA.
She cherished her role in Lost in Space and was delighted to know she inspired many future astronauts.”
June’s peaceful passing marked the end of a career that stretched nearly nine decades. However, she began acting at just eight years old and made her big-screen debut alongside her parents in A Christmas Carol.
By 1947, she won a Tony Award for Best Newcomer for her role in For Love or Money.
Moreover, friends and fans across the world remembered her with love and admiration.
Even Costume designer Jean-Pierre Dorleac wrote that the late legend “promoted and encouraged me throughout the 55 years we have known each other,” calling her “a sensational and fantastic lady.”
Family friend Lyle Gregory shared, “Now, the woman who loved to fly has embarked on her last adventure. We will miss this truly remarkable woman.”
Off-screen, June was deeply involved with NASA and often attended launches with astronauts like Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.
